Check out my review of the game here: Heroes of Kalevala review
When people talk badly of “casual games,” match-3 games are very much a part of what they’re talking about. The fact that they’re simple and aimed at wide appeal isn’t the reason I dislike Heroes of Kalevala, though—it’s the way the game fails at everything unique it brings to the table. Later on, the gimmicks become so overwhelming and annoying that the whole thing ends up being little more than a waste of time; when you have an entire board of pieces and the game has to shuffle them two moves in a row because there aren’t any possible moves (and this shuffling happens a lot), the very point of the game is undermined and things take a turn for the ugly. Especially since each level is timed.
