Check out my review of the game here: Fallout 2 review
Many people think Fallout 2 is one of the greatest games ever made. Funny story—it’s not. I’ve tried to get through this game on 4-5 different occasions using different patches, mods, and release versions (from the physical to the GOG version, which is what these screenshots are of). Each time I was beat down by excessive tedium and bugginess that simply isn’t present in the original Fallout.
Fallout 1 is still one of the best games ever made. Playing the sequel makes it obvious just how much the first game benefited by the smaller world and more focused story. Fallout 2 tugs you in a ton of different directions, ultimately forcing you into a bunch of tedious fights with 1-2 minute enemy turns and constant fetch quests that make the entire game exhausting. I tried my hardest to get to the end of the game, and I got close, but I was at the tanker near the end and the captain refused to so much as talk to me until I did a quest for someone on the ship (and no one gave me that quest, despite me talking to everyone). Pathetic, tedious, and stupid beyond words, which is why that was the moment I quit.
