Doom & Destiny isn’t the worst Android game I’ve ever played, but it’s definitely one of the most consistently grating. Between the immature “humor” that consistently ceases to be funny (usually only being random references to other games), thoroughly unlikable characters, and plodding script containing endless typos and sloppy translation quirks, this game proved truly painful to have to play through. I’ve read tons of praise for this game, some even complimenting the translation as though the errors are intentional and designed to hark back to jRPGs of years past, and yet the developers themselves admit on their forums and in the credits that it’s just a sloppy translation. Even if that weren’t the case, Breath of Fire 2 and Final Fantasy 4—pretty much the standard-bearers for amusingly poor translations—are far more understandable than the word salad that D&D frequently employs in its dialogue, and that’s to say nothing of the fact that all four of the main characters have nothing distinguishing about their speech or mannerisms. The end result is an unfunny game about four identical douchebags whose speech reeks of Google Translate running through a world of unfunny, forced references that frequently come across as cringe-inducing rather than humorous.
