While the game ultimately won me over, my enjoyment of Brothers wasn’t quite as complete as that of others. In fact, the first hour or so had me downright unenthused; my praise for it, then, isn’t anywhere near as unequivocal as that heaped on it by some. It has flaws, some glaring (unskippable cutscenes, the game being virtually unplayable without a controller) and others more subtle (I could swear that the younger brother runs slower, which makes controlling both characters at once unnecessarily awkward-feeling). The story makes some ballsy moves toward the middle and end, though, dropping the quaint villages of the beginning and infusing darker elements of mythology into the game.
